Salome's adaptation of France's legendary gentleman-thief can certainly be admired for its ambition, being an amply budgeted French action-adventure film, and boasting a cast that includes distinguished English actress Kristin Scott Thomas as the scene stealing villain, but ultimately suffers from an indecisive script that wants to be the Jack-Of-All-Trades/definitive Lupin film, going from simple popcorn fun with some well shot action and good effects, such as a bombing in a restaurant, to some kind of biopic, the last 20 minutes especially feeling really rushed and showing a lack of faith for the possibility of a sequel and future tales in the titular thief's life.

frankly, a lil creepy when one realizes the madam has been alive all this time -- throughout centuries!! Duris was convincing in his role and, this is way better than Sherlock :)

Nice rendition of a french literary classic. Nicer than Holmes imho. The mood and costumes were executed brilliantly. The choice of Scott Thomas as the femme fatale countess was questionable, though her acting and french are undeniably excellent.

An incoherent movie which never misses an opportunity to butcher the character it seeks to represent. Its supernatural undertones are incredibly fantastic, insipid and puerile.

A fine adventure movie.. With no further meanings but you'll surely enjoy it, after all you know what you're gonna see! Good scenario with lots of overthrows in the plot and great atmosphere and costumes.

the 1st part was a little fast moving & can seem incoherent like a fast moving American movie versus a British one. I liked the belle epoque setting of the movie most of all. I'll need to watch it again as it was way too fast moving for me to grasp everything.

X-tin is an awesome ¬ęBitch¬Ľ witch from hell!!!

Wonderful to watch my childhood hero live on the big screen. AL rocks forever.

Even though the film suffers from its incoherent, very confusing, and especially implausible storyline; it was still deliciously entertaining for me.
I loved the vibrant visuals, and the wonderful costumes of the Belle Epoque were just charming. Too bad that the film did not make full use of its underlying material.

Entertaining, but that's it :-)

Arsene Lupin is one of my 19th century favorite characters. He flirts between 2 morals. Being a gentlemen's thief he is good and mischievous at the same time. This film pulls the story from many of Lupin's inside the novels adventures. Some of the scenes might be a bit confusing, but the humor and action are nicely delivered.

Disappointing.
And I'm not even going to talk about the ending.

En underlig fransk blandning av Greven av Monte Cristo och DaVinci-koden som utspelar sig i f√∂rstklassiga milj√∂er. N√§stan varje scen slutar ocks√• i en slags komisk v√§ndning. √?nd√• befriande. F√∂rsta halvtimmen √§r svagare √§n resten av filmen.

A bit overly done,A hard to follow story fillled with ridiculous special effects and fighting sequences that PROBABLY didnt exist in the latter of the 19th Century. If you put all of that aside, it's a damn fun ride. Romain Duris is a great anti-hero trying to find a treasure before a rival thief does. The two thieves play the bickering quite well, (the other thief, played by Eva Green, is quite eeeeevil) and their disputes usually end up quite public and spectacular. Again not the greatest movie in the world, but entertaining to a degree if you're willing to put logic aside.

Whilst Kristin Scott Thomas scores a partial success as the film's main villain, Romain Duris appears absurd almost from start to finish, mainly because he is compelled to portray Lupin as a two-dimensional action hero, somewhere between Indiana Jones and Superman. It's a tedious spectacle of CGI effects and gratuitous Grand Guignol gore, whose appeal is limited to juveniles with an unhealthy addiction to the kind of showy Hollywood blockbuster adventure movie which this film tries so hard - in fact, too hard - to emulate.
