Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (AVP 2)

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (AVP 2)

Critics Consensus

The increased gore and violence over the first Alien vs. Predator can't excuse Requiem's disorientating editing, excessively murky lighting, and lack of new ideas.

Movie Info

Visual effects specialists Greg and Colin Strause both make their feature directorial debut with this no-holds-barred monster mash that attempts to set itself apart from the 2004 Paul W.S. Anderson original by serving as a straight-up sci-fi horror scarefest. The aliens (and a predator) have landed on planet Earth, and small-town America is about to become the scene of an epic interstellar showdown. As these two breeds of cosmic killers clash in the small-town streets Gunnison, CO, the locals are sent running for their lives. From the murky sewers to the rain-soaked streets, Gunnison has become a total bloodbath. Nowhere is safe, especially from the unstoppable new hybrid known as the "predalien." Now, as the once-quiet community of Gunnison is overrun by Aliens, the only hope for humankind is a fierce hunter from the deepest reaches of space. But this predator is far from a benevolent savior of the human race, because he'll kill any man, woman, or child who gets in the way of his mission to destroy every last alien under these stormy Colorado skies.

This one was little better than the first one, but only by a little. There were more aliens in this one and the humans were able to take a stronger foothold in the action of this one rather than being purely in distress in the first one. Of course, also, the Predalien (the major draw for the film I guess was to see this in action) is pretty cool.

Out of all the Alien and Predator franchise, a series stretching out for nearly 40 years, a cultural phenomenon that has wormed its way into all manner of media, and has produced no less than eleven official movie entries, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem is the worst. It's so blatantly obviously the worst that I don't think any Alien or Predator or even Alien vs Predator movie that we ever see from now until the end of time will ever unseat it as the worst.

Just when you thought the worst couldn't get any more worse, there's AVP:R (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem) The Strause Bros. terribly portray the already-damaged-franchises with an even more ridiculous script, forgettable story, and not to mention the darkness (literally dark) as there is no significant lighting. 0.5/5

A sequel to a weak spin-off. Although it's far more gruesome than the first 'AVP', it lacks reason behind it like the originals. Featuring a new breed of alien, which looks like a complete mess, its difficult to actually see it due to the very dark scenes. Again, it has very predictable scenarios. Like the first 'Alien Vs Predator', this is definetely worth a miss.
