Movie Info

With a title like Back in the Saddle, this Republic B-western simply has to have Gene Autry in the lead. The plot shifts in gear when young hothead Tom Bennett (Edward Norris) is accused of murder. Knowing that Tom is innocent, Autry and his sidekick Frog (Smiley Burnette) engineer a prison break. Even with our heroes in charge, it looks for a while that villain E. G. Blaine (Arthur Hoyt) will triumph, but no one has reckoned with crooked gambler Duke Winston (Addison Richards), whose last-minute reformation saves the day. Autry's leading lady this time is played by Jacqueline Wells, not long before she moved to Warner Bros. and changed her name to Julie Bishop.

Audience Reviews for Back in the Saddle

This was allright, had some good moments in it and again has Gene playing the mentor role to a spolied "city" kid who has inherited the ranch. Note to future Ranch owners: STOP sending yor kids back east to goto school. They get odd notions about living in high rises and don't want to wrangle cattle.

As a western it's quite average, but Gene Autry sings some great classic songs in this one. Great pacing and entertaining.

Gene Autry western with title tune that became his signature song. This one's a classic but I just couldn't get into it - not much of a plot, forgettable songs, and extremely hokey ending.
