Bangkok Dangerous

Bangkok Dangerous

Critics Consensus

With murky cinematography, a meandering pace, a dull storyline, and rather wooden performances, The Pang Brothers' Hollywood remake of Bangkok Dangerous is unsuccessful.

  • While the film includes several exciting, creatively shot action scenes, the drama is otherwise so shopworn that the violent climax is a relief.

  • Cage is believable as the brooding lone-wolf gunman, but the "hit man screwing himself by growing a conscience on his final kill" ploy needs to be put down for good.

  • This is as stale as Tuesday's Phad Thai, from its exhausted mythos of the surgically efficient, omnipotent hit man to the training scenes in which Joe explains the trade to the new guy, to the inevitable betrayals of the third act.

Just an average action film with a plot that's been done loads of times that it was hard to enjoy, But Nic Cage puts in a good performance and had some good action scenes but nothing new or memorable.

Bangkok Dangerous is a rather poor remake that lacks substance. A professional assassin goes to Bangkok for one final job, but things start to become personal when he unexpectedly decides to take on an apprentice. Unfortunately, Nicolas Cage doesn't bring his A-game and instead delivers a weak and bland performance. There's not much of a story here and little character development. The actions scenes are also poorly done and don't really build much suspense or tension. Remakes are often inferior, and Bangkok Dangerous is inferior in a lot of ways.

At first it sounds a bit interesting, but then it gets a little dark but it is very boring, with a few action scenes that would rescue a small part of the film but eventually loses somewhat mediocre performances.

There are things to like with this movie, Cage is understated for a change, when there is action it is decent and the far to overused story of the tortured hitman is handled competently. Unfortunately It's just a bit slow and very predictable if you want to see this one I suggest you watch The Killer(with Mr.Chow) or The Mechanic (with Statham) both of which are much better.
