A fictionalization of Barabbas' story after being set free. It had potential, but then got too cliche.

Lacking the Circus Maximus spectacle of its famous predecessor, Barabbas compensates with nuanced acting from Anthony Quinn.

Barabbas is such a sweetheart. Obviously, factually challenged. But it's not intended to be. It's a Christian parable. Still a very good watch. Quinn is excellent in everything. He is so darn good. Gets exceptionally good at the end.

The sets and direction were first class, Jack Palace as the head gladiator was very good as was Anthony Quinn.

Barabbas is a beautiful work of Fleischer and Quinn. One of the most exciting and terrific Biblical films. Fresh.

An Often Forgot About Biblical Epic Which Spans The 20 Years After Jesus' Death. The Film Follows Barabbas, Who Was Released From Prison At The Passover, Instead Of Jesus, This Film Follows His Life From Slavery To Gladiator & Finally Beoming A Christian. Anthony Quinn Gives A Decent Performance From The Weak Material He Is Provided With. Jack Palance Is Terrific As The Bloodthirsty Rival Of Barabbas. The Most Impressive Point About This Film Is That It Catches A Real-Life Solar Eclipse, Which Director Richard Fleischer, Prepared For Days To Capture, This Gives Great Effect To The Crucifixion Scene Near The Start Of The Film. All In An Interesting Story, With A Really Bad Script, But It's Some Of The Cast Performances That Make This Limited Script Seem Better Than What It Is At Times.

At first, it seems unlikely that they'd ever make a movie about the guy who was freed instead of Jesus. To be honest, I didn't think that was much you could do with the story of Barabbas. It turns out that the film-makers found a way, but unfortunately, the plot is occasionally hard to follow, and it can sometimes be a little heavy-handed when it comes to religion. Also, I find that the production values on this film are inferior to other epics of this nature. Those problems aside, it's actually a rather entertaining epic with interesting ideas, and an interesting conclusion, all of it bolstered by good performances. Even if it's not as good as other epics from the film's era, but it's still good to watch.

another awesome biblical epic

Barabbas is a haunting and fascinating look at the man who was chosen in place of Jesus by the Jewish people. He returns to his old life but is occasionally haunted by Jesus' death and the claims of his followers and disciples. It may only be by the time of his death, on a cross, that he has come to see Jesus as Who He is. Jack Palance is great as an arrogant chariot driver while Anthony Quinn is Barabbas. 10/10

As a swards and sandal gladiatorial epic, this is a well produced and competently made film with a strong lead in Anthony Quinn and fine support from the lovely Silvana Manngano and handsome Vittorio Gassman. The long running time might detract some, but this unfolding drama of an immoral man finding his faith is well worth a look.

My Favorite Anthony Quinn Movie.A Biblical Epic that I usually like to see around Easter, he plays Barabba's who is Pardoned instead of Jesus, & how that effects his life & makes him into a Better Man.Bravo

Barabbas struggles to come to terms with his x-factor style vote off with Jesus. Ends up being captured by the Romans and then has to face up to his beliefs as well as trying to stay alive. Another sweeping biblical epic.

This was my alternative to The Passion. Jack Palance was awesome! Nice story of whatever happened to the man that was freed over Jesus.

The pacing was not right. But still worth a watch.

The 2 star are only for Anthony Quinn who makes this movie watchable, the rest is a stupid and false story that makes no sens what so ever.
