Thanks to director Rock Baijnauth's playful, nonjudgmental approach to these obsessive characters, the whole enterprise comes across as endearingly -- and perhaps even admirably -- ridiculous, rather than laughably so.
I found the competition and the participants preposterous.
Baijnauth struck gold with his five baristas. Their collective passion steers the sometimes-unfocused narrative, and their perfectionist brushes with madness give this celebratory portrait a slight edge.
It captures the frustration and the longing of forever wanting more and better at the expense of casualness of being.
A very interesting documentary on professional coffee baristas. It was intetesting to see just how passionate they are about making coffee and the lengths they will go for perfection and obviously to win.
