Critic Reviews for Batman & Bill
The comics cognoscenti, who are aware of Finger's saga, should still find much to appreciate in the documentary.
The film is beautifully directed by Don Argott and produced by Sheena Joyce. The one thing that's missing is commentary from Kane's side of the story.
While the documentary has an extremely interesting subject matter, it may only appeal to Batman fans.
It eventually serves as an archetype for anyone who has tried to contribute to a team only to have someone else claim the credit, glory, and rewards that follow in the wake of the team's success.
The documentary is a must-watch for comics fans, and a gripping real-life story for the rest of us.
Audience Reviews for Batman & Bill
This is a documentary creatively told with archival material and graphical hand drawn animation that fits the comic book style. Bill Finger was an uncredited co-creator of Batman and his rogues gallery with the more outgoing salesman Bob Kane. The filmmakers tell the story with some mystery as Marc Tyler Nobleman, an author who has researched this comic artist, investigates whether Bill Finger has any remaining family who could be heirs. Then there is legal intrigue as they help fight the Goliath that is DC Comics for money owed to this unrecognized creator of one of the most famous pop culture heroes. Spoiler: Justice is served and Bill is credited alongside Bob in new publications of Batman comics as well as the DC/Warner Brothers Gotham TV show.
