Movie Info

New York teen Nicole (Aimee Teegarden) goes to Santa Cruz to spend the summer with her estranged grandmother (Patricia Richardson), and uncovers buried family secrets while following her late grandfather's map to a secluded surfing paradise. Shortly after arriving in California, Nicole inherits her grandfather's vintage surfing van, and invites three friends on a trip to Malibu. Somewhere along the way, the group discovers a map that will lead them to a beach that's untouched by modern progress. Meanwhile, a family secret that's lain dormant for 40 years prompts Nicole to look at her past - and her potential future - in a very different light. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Pensive coming-of-age surfer tale has a few iffy scenes.

Audience Reviews for Beautiful Wave

I ended up watching this somehow... it started out horrible, but progressed into a fairly dark story with an emotional ending. It has a low budget charm to it. And Lance Henriksen. I really wasn't expecting that...

Most surf movies have great footage of the waves and the surfers with an amazing story full of emotional punch. This movie is more of a road trip along the beach kind of story with a weak plot and a weak love story. It may be worth a watch, but it is rather forgettable.
