"Berlin, I Love You" features no real duds even if some entries are disappointing. A few of the ten-minute films could benefit from better pacing, or a more impactful ending. But enough of the shorts provide a pleasant diversion.
By and large, the film feels aimless and uninspired.
A love letter to a city should at least be so in love with its location that it sweeps you off your feet and makes you want to go there. "Berlin" fails to make a proper case for Berlin.
The film does not exactly make a convincing case for the idea of Berlin as a hub of passion.
It makes you nervous that if you don't like one segment, which you surely won't, another mediocre to awful one will follow.
The wildly uneven anthology "Berlin, I Love You" exhibits telltale signs of jet lag.
The writing would have to be a lot sharper to make this a recommended stop on your cinematic itinerary.
If the 'Cities of Love' franchise has to resort to a weird incest storyline to fill time in Berlin, I Love You, maybe the time has come to end the whole endeavor?
Some stories here are purest gold while others pale yet seem so bold. A mixed bag , for sure. But cheers for that beautiful fantasy dancing in the park and the delightful puppeteer segment!
When you cast Keira Knightley and Helen Mirren in a movie and it fails you know where to place the blame. This anthology shreds their skills like confetti
This anthology effort is too long, offers too little, and seems like a largely wasted opportunity.
Limp anthology has brief nudity, language, adult themes.
