Both a showcase of Rodrigo Santoro's talent and an exposé of the horrible conditions of mental institutions in Brazil (based on a real life story), this is an tragic and unsettling drama that looks quite realistic with its use of handheld camera and blueish cinematography.
If you want to watch something on the topic go for "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" or "Girl, Interrupted" rather and not necessarily for this title. It's disturbing though if that's what psychiatric treatment in Brazil looks like. Interesting to see Santoro in something from before his Hollywood period.
