This movie is worth the watch just for the ending alone.

Loved this movie from begining to end, this shows what true friendship is all about, Awesome performances by Matthew Modine and Nicolas Cage, no wonder these two men became such great actors.

Story about friendship, war and obsessions.
But what a feast to watch and how painfully lonely at times.
Two great actors playing a great role.

A very good story and very good performances from Modine and Cage.

Inolvidable, entre la inocencia y la locura. No se a veces creo que los verderos locos estan en las calles y los exageradamente humanos encerrados en un sanatorio.

There is eventually some interesting material about what it means to be mad toward the end, but overall this is a pretty one-note film with some not very strong acting from the leads. I also need to find out where the bird/flying metaphor is buried, because this movie beat it to death.

(1984) Birdy

DRAMA/ with some realistic WAR scenes

Well made film directed by Alan Parker (Midnight Express) about Sgt Alfonso (Nicholas Cage) doing whatever he can to pull Mathew Modine out of shock from what happened to Birdy (Mathew Modine) as a result while in Nam. Subltle as well as a fascinating character study reavaluating about one's life!!
Based on a novel by William Wharton.

Wonderful, dreaming movie, about the illusions of two young people, and also about how they were affected by Vietnam war. Wonderful work from Alan Parker, who uses again the music as a wonderful instrument, but is also great about developing the story and the shots.

Parker has dealth with several off the cuff stories and Birdy is no different. Basically a study of a young boy and how events around him influences his mental state parallel with his best friend sent to war. A touching film, which does go off on tangents at times but the good side of this, you never really know how it is going to end.

Great early performances from Matthew Modine and Nicolas Cage. A great movie that shows the aftermath of the Vietnam War on fragile, innocent minds.

Une esthétique du pub typique des années 80 et une histoire de fou qui se prend pour un piaf qui patine un peu dans la choucroute. Ne résiste pas aux années. Bof
