I picked this up from Youtube. I'm not sure why it's dated 2012 on here when actually it was made in the early 90s. It's about as far from Hollywood as you can get. The acting and scripting are pretty wooden and contrived, although the lead actors are quite good. It's Scottish, and it's about the sea, and it portrays 20th Century life from an everyday perspective. There are also a lot of arty shots of the sea and the shoreline. The story, of not only the mother's death but the grandmother's too, has the flavour of a non-fictional meditation on one's relationship to the world and one's family. It's not a great film.
