Movie Info

In every corner of our precious globe, we are polluting, diverting, pumping, and wasting our limited supply of fresh water at an expediential level as population and technology grows. The rampant overdevelopment of agriculture, housing and industry increase the demands for fresh water well beyond what is available, resulting in the desertification of the earth. Corporate giants force developing countries to privatize their water supply for profit. Wall Street investors target desalination and mass bulk water export schemes. Corrupt governments use water for economic and political gain. Military control of water emerges and a new geo-political map and power structure forms, setting the stage for world water wars. We follow numerous worldwide examples of people fighting for their basic right to water, from court cases to violent revolutions to U.N. conventions to revised constitutions to local protests at grade schools. A line is crossed as water becomes a commodity. Will we survive?

Alternately political and apolitical, pessimistic and optimistic--but rarely, if ever, cinematic.

This is a serious and worrying documentary.

Audience Reviews for Blue Gold: World Water Wars

"this is not a film about saving the environment, it's a film about saving ourselves, because whatever ones environmental, political, or religious opinion, whatever ones race, sex or economic standing, whoever of us goes without water for a week, cries blood."

The production value of this wasn't doing it for me, and I don't think it would for most others either. The goal of the documentary is to inform, but to entertain while doing so (let's face it, they're first and foremost movies). I think the interviews and information couldn't be enough to carry the rest of this film.
