Movie Info

From Jan Kounen, the French director of the violent cult actioner Dobermann, comes this loose adaptation of Jean "Mobius" Giraud's comic series Blueberry. Vincent Cassel stars as Mike Blueberry, a lawman whose past comes back to haunt him when his town is invaded by the nefarious Blount (Michael Madsen), the man responsible for his first love's murder. Led by a German con man by the name of Prosit (an unrecognizable Eddie Izzard), Blount and his crew search for an ancient treasure buried deep within Indian tribal grounds, while Blueberry and his Indian friend Runi (Temuera Morrison) race to keep the land sacred and stop the thieves by any means possible. Featuring Juliette Lewis and her father, Geoffrey Lewis, in supporting roles, the film sports a solid American cast that boasts an additional performance by Colm Meaney and a rare appearance by none other than Ernest Borgnine.

It's "bad art," they'll say. That's fine, for the rest of us there's always a haven in the appreciation of "bad art."

I hereby propose to close the voting for the Raspberry awards 2004, and incidentally rebaptise them the 'Blueberry awards'. What a mess.

Audience Reviews for Renegade

160813: There are some big actors in this film including Juliette Lewis, Michael Madsen, Colm Meaney, and the gone but not forgotten Ernest Borgnine. The mystical side of this story is a bit weak and some of the related special effects are poor but the surround sound at 75 minutes scared the hell out of me. The costumes, firearms, and horses are great. I had absolutely no memory of having previously watched Renegade but as it was open, and in my collection, I must have? Strange and a bit scary. Well worth watching and if you hang on long enough Lewis bares it all. Near the conclusion, the film becomes excessively focused on what someone obviously considered their art. As a result, 3 stars maximum for what would've otherwise been a good film.

Take out the enhanced computer graphics and you have a decent western, This would have been much better on the big screen, Not sure why some parts were added. Seems all modern day westerns have to have effects added that really have nothing to do with the story or the time period. Still its worth 3 stars
