06/21/2018 Deep look into effects of Parkinson's disease.Interesting to compare with first doc by same name from one decade prior. Provides excellent look at the toll of chronic illness. But it also captures bursts of hope that emerge or are created over dubious backdrops.. See more 05/15/2018 Wonderful film and even better people involved. See more 05/14/2018 The film is really well done. It is honest, raw, emotional, educational and a beautiful illustration of a father son bond that has grown stronger (and at times more complicated) in the face of this challenging disease. We are so grateful to Robert for sharing this part of his life with so many and for telling his very powerful story. See more 05/14/2018 Boys of Summer: Second Base is a well-made documentary that captures the joy and sorrow of a close family dealing with their patriarch's battle with Parkinson's disease. They deal with the disease's progression with love, humor and honesty and address some difficult issues that would be great conversation-starters for a Parkinson's disease support group. See more 05/01/2018 my view is probably biased by the fact that i spent 3 days with Robert and Dan and feel that i got to know them a little. The movie is a heartfelt and compassionate view of how a family deals with PD and it's effects on relationships and quality of life. The baseball aspect combines how baseball is so similar to life. We fight and struggle and sometimes the runs come and sometimes they don't,. Win or lose , we attempt to do our best every time. Much like dealing with PD. It's a team effort and some days are good and some days are not, but we keep trying. Everyone faced with a challenging health issue would find this film rewarding.. See more 04/24/2018 I went to the viewing of Second Base in Cincinnati. I've seen the first film and thought it was an awesome way to produce many father son memories and to have people become more aware of the Parkinson's disease. But the film was much more than just trying to create bonds that were already there. After watching Second Base, I thought that this film was more about the diease itself and how it is affecting Robert's dad, Dan. In this film, you get to see the struggles that a Parkinson's patient goes through everyday. The affects it has on him physically and mentally. Also how it affects family. I must say I did tear up a bit near the last half of the film and would definitely recommend someone seeing their films! This is not just for people who already have this diesase, but it's for everyone to learn more about this diease and how we can promote/find a cure for reasearch. Can't wait for many more films!
