Movie Info

This drama, based on a play which described the legend of how Northern Ireland and Wales separated, attempts to utilize anti-British sentiments to link the two Celtic cultures. The story is focused upon Branwen and Kevin. Branwen is a militantly anti-British-rule Welsh school teacher. Kevin, a Welshman who grew up in Northern Ireland is a peaceful man who does not take sides. After she becomes pregnant by Kevin, she marries him, against the protests of her step-brother Mathonwy, who is a soldier, and insists they move to Belfast because she sees that as the crucial area in her crusade against the British. In Belfast, a soldier is murdered in an IRA killing and Kevin and Branwen are involved. Kevin disgusted by his wife's political extremism boots her out and she returns to Wales where she takes up with her step-brother before he is sent to Bosnia. Time passes and a wounded Mathonwy returns just as Kevin also returns. The resulting fireworks comprise the film's climax. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
