a little revisionist history here or shall we say historically inacurate.

It does contain some well excuted moments, and a couple of well acted characters, but it's all off set by a confusing plot, an anti climatic ending and a few poor scenes and characters. It's an okay film, although the conspiracy around George Patton was unessecary.

Fun little 70's "what if?" movies that ties in two unrelated things and tries to connect them, and then tries to invent conspiracy theories. It's like Inglorious Basterds 1970s style. There's a plot out to kill Patton (played rather George-Kennedishly by George Kennedy) and it's up to John Cassevetes and Sophia Loren to stop it! Oh yes, there's a gold theft in there somewhere as well, as well as the story of the assassin too. Somewhat hard to follow, but enjoyable nevertheless. Max Von Sydow is so smarmy and greasy here, he steals the show. OH RIGHT, there's also the amazing Robert Vaughn, playing WAY over type, playing a general with a secret gay boyfriend. So good!

Conspiracy theory tying General Patton's strange death with stolen German gold at the end of WWII. Story and sets show excellent attention to detail. Contains several actors who would go on to be guest stars on Columbo. Poster better than film.

Sometimes muddled conspiracy theory about Gen Patton's fatal car accident being murder. Unfortunately lacks a Zapruder film and grassy knoll to make this gain steam. Would be interesting to see Oliver Stone give this subject the JFK treatment.

So Patton tries to find out who stole gold from a train during WW2. And sometime gov't official Max von Sydow is hired to kill the General. Sophia Loren is there for no reason other than to link the assassin to the guy trying to stop him in a weird love triangle. And Robert Vaughn plays a gay officer for some reason. The train heist opening was quite well done, but after that, it was really to boring to want to watch, even with George Kennedy going over George C. Scott's top as patton spouting things like wanting to cram every brick of that gold "up their Red Commie asses!!!"
