There are too many subplots, too much attention to the peripheries, and an eventual shift from sarcastic to saccharine that feels inauthentic.

It can't quite get itself tonally didn't gel for me, but there are individual moments that are quite funny.

The writing, by the playwright Paul Downs Colaizzo, is good, but the construction is loose - it was written about a friend of the playwright's, not its star, and it shows. Next time, Bell ought to try to write something for herself.

At once a formulaic crowdpleaser and something far more insidious, repeatedly and problematically conflating the subject of body positivity with the need to lose weight.

Bell imbues Brittany with humanity and wit, but all too frequently she is working within the framework of a story that seems hellbent on robbing her character of joy.

Brittany Runs A Marathon winds up feeling like a story told by an outsider who's empathetic toward, but not fully immersed in, a specific lived experience.
