Bizarre and perhaps unintentionally gripping...
Despite the breath-stopping absurdity and bewildered ego at every turn, and although the words are all madness and the songs are all terrible, this manages to be one of the most moving, uplifting and downright touching band portraits you will ever see.
Is Matt a bit of a joke with his long, earnest metaphors or is the joke on us? Why doesn't he look like his identical twin Luke now? And where is Ken? None of these questions are answered in this warts-and-all film, but it's so funny that doesn't matter.
When I sat down to watch it, to see what all the fuss was about, I didn't expect to both laugh and cry.
Some of their remarks are unintentionally hilarious, giving us Spinal Tap by way of Smash Hits, yet the duo are ultimately lovable, and the film makes you poignantly aware of how testing their lives have been.
If their 1987 hit song When Will I Be Famous? is the call, this film is the bitterly ironic response.
They talk like they've been written by Christopher Guest... the film is really charming.
But in this touching and very funny film about last year's Bros reunion concert, Matt and Luke Goss don't seem in charge of a single shot. They rarely seem in control of themselves.
Initial interest may rest with nostalgic fans but there is a bigger story here with a wider emotional reach...
