Levinson não consegue retratar a violência da Máfia; Morricone exagera na auto-referência à trilha de Os Intocáveis; e o filme insiste em tratar Siegel, um psicopata, como um empreendedor sonhador. Ainda assim, a história é interessante.

Oh, it's not that they cover up Siegel's brutal side, it's just that they undercut it by making the man just a victim of his own appetites, which is sort of like saying Charles Manson was just a little too enthusiastic about a certain Beatles tune.

For all the powerful scenes in Bugsy, the film as a whole never quite adds up

For Levinson, Beatty, and Toback this was an important roll of the dice. Looks to me like they come up craps.

A clump of casinos in the sand is evidence of something, but I'm pretty sure it's not greatness.

While Bugsy expertly captures the glamor of '40s Hollywood, it fails as the drama of a man whose dreams of glory lure him to an ignominious end.

Insouciant and flashy, co-producer Beatty is at his best when evoking the narcissistic, show-business side of Siegel.

As Siegel, Warren Beatty hones the finest characterization of his career.

While avoiding the usual gangster film clichés, director Barry Levinson also insists that Warren Beatty does more than coast through this movie on matinée idol looks and easy charm.

Barry Levinson's Bugsy will reignite your passion for inventive foul-mouthery, so inventively crafted and spitefully delivered are its swears.

Bugsy moves with a lightness that belies its strength. It is a movie that vibrates with optimism and passion, with the exuberance of the con-man on his game.
