Critic Reviews for Mo hup leung juk (Butterfly Lovers) (The Assassin's Blade)

All Critics (1)

The Assassin's Blade plays out like a Chinese remake of Romeo and Juliet, but tries to cram in so much melodrama, overacting, action sequences that play out like ballet, and terrible attempts at humor that it's extremely difficult to get through.

Audience Reviews for Mo hup leung juk (Butterfly Lovers) (The Assassin's Blade)

½

At the beginning, it was all right with everything seems to be under control, even though not good enough probably. The further it goes, the more stupid it becomes- stupid storyline, stupid dialogue, stupid scenes design, stupid (& confusing) villain figure... but who cares?!! All those who went to see this piece asked for nothing more than the two idols (Charlene Choi x Wu Chun, perhaps a few goes for Hu Ge too?) who played the protagonists here.

Not bad but hard to keep focused on as the plot was maybe trying to cram too much into a feature film. The beginning starts out light-hearted and humorous as the relationship develops. The first half was more enjoyable for this reason I suppose, as things turn more serious towards the end. The plot gets rolling with family conflict and star-crossed love when the two lovers are torn apart. The ending is of course tragic but that's what this movie is about right? Reincarnated Butterfly Lovers who still can't be together this time either. Charlene was enjoyable as always for the Twins, though Wu Chun wasn't that interesting other than to look at.

Movie well shot and performed by the cast, but the story itself seems to be fairly linear/predictable and could have more depth.
