Movie Info

When a trio of small-time marijuana dealers incur the wrath of the Mexican mafia, their American dream turns into a terrifying nightmare in the debut feature from director Juwan Chung. Everything seems to be going well for life-long friends-turned-petty pot peddlers Kash (Archie Howard II), Shane (Chung), and Bones (Ben Baller) until their trusted drive is busted during a routine run to Ohio, and when the naïve dealers try to recoup their losses by selling cocaine, they quickly realize that they've gotten in over their heads. With no one to trust and the Mexican mafia hot on their trail, Kash is soon thrown in jail and Shane and Bones left to fend for themselves as the hired guns close in. When survival instinct pits friend against friend, loyalties are tested and bonds broken for three friends who thought they had it all.

Cake is under-baked and underwhelming.

Cake's moments of charm and the cast's good cheer compensate for the thinness of the material.

As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. In this case, don't let the star names fool you.

There are several laugh-out-loud moments in the adult romantic comedy Cake, a film with the magical ability to -- poof! -- leave your head the second it leaves the screen.

Audience Reviews for Cake

[img][/img] Plot: L.A. auteur Juwan Chung, like many talented filmmakers before him, writes, acts, and directs simultaneously. In his action-packed film CAKE, Chung's bold new voice and vision shape the story of three loyal friends who get caught up in the drug trade of their inner city streets. Soon, they are running from both sides of the law -- the Mexican Mafia and the DEA -- and could easily end up turning on each other. Review: I got this movie like a month ago and I just seen it last night and this movie "Cake" is pretty good. This is a low-budget film so I was expecting it to be ur typical gangsta bust ya gun amateur movie with horrible acting, horrible dialogue and no story but I was wrong this movie was really well done and visually looked real good 4 a low-budget film. This movie had some good creative camera angles and the editing was also good. The acting performances wasn't topnotch but there was a lot of good solid performances, at times it would be good and other times it wasn't believable. Juwan Chung basically wrote, directed and acts as the main star in the movie and he did a great job in all those categories, he's a talent to look out for, hopefully he only gets better and makes more movies. This should be a good rent for the gangsta flick fans.
