Call Me Mother has some overwrought melodrama, but the movie has plenty of charm, thanks to a charismatic performance from Vice Ganda. It's a bittersweet story of a transgender mother's quest to adopt a 10-year-old boy she's raised since his infancy.

Call Me Mother is probably the most emotionally mature Vice Ganda movie I’ve seen. It doesn’t abandon the humor that made Vice popular; instead, it finally proves that there’s a dramatic actor underneath all that comedy. The film is funny, sentimental, occasionally manipulative—and very Filipino in the way it goes straight for your tear ducts.
