Movie Info

Richard Dreyfuss narrates this made-for-cable adaptation of the classic novel by Jack London. This particular version of the tale has been hailed as one of the most accurate dramatic presentations of London's work. The story tells the exciting and often brutal tale of Buck, a dog who is stolen from his caring owner in California and sent to the Yukon, where he's forced into service as a sled dog by his new (and violent) masters. Rutger Hauer stars.

Audience Reviews for Jack London's 'The Call of the Wild'

The movie, Call of the Wild: Dog of the Yukon upset me in numerous ways. It seemed to faintly shadow this great and timeless novel! Many simple to fix mistakes were also incorperated into this horrid attempt at succeeding the novel!! For instance, when John Thorton was betting at the saloon, he bet Buck could pull 800lbs when the novel said 1000! Is that really that hard to say?! Besides that, the music was simply dreadful! They were playing romance music in the (suppose to be) action packed fight between Buck and Spitz. Also, the movie never gave any forshadowing, when the book was filled with it! It just seemed to chop from one scene to another, with absolutely no flow in between. Besides, since when was Buck some huge, blundering fluffy dog when he's suppose to be fierce! He looked like he had just came back from the salon in every scene, even when he was suppose to be near dead from starvation! If their narrator wasnt their, this movie would be a total waste of time. What I am trying to say, is that if you've read this classic tale, dont watch the movie, it will upset you too much.

didn't keep perfectly with the book (Hallmark channel budget) but it is a fairly good adaption, if not lacking a bit in character development
