Not really a horror film but, not bad. Once again, Peter Cushing makes this completely watchable.

Beware the Marsh Phantoms!
Peter Cushing is SOOOO good in this very enjoyable tale of a town of wine-smugglers under investigation by square-jawed Patrick Allen and his motley band of supporting actors.
Ollie Reed is suave (no, really) and Jack MacGowran is crafty; busty Yvonne Romain plays Ollie's lover in this film, having previously played his MOTHER (in Curse Of The Werewolf)! The GREAT Michael Ripper has a larger (and showier) role than usual as "Jeremiah Mipps - Coffin Maker To The Nobility".
Even though it's not actually a horror movie, there are some great macabre touches here - the luminous "Marsh Phantoms" and a living scarecrow!!
Good Hammer.

One of my favourite Hammer movies of all time. Not strictly a horror, although it has some great gothic elements. The mighty Cush gives one of his finest performances. A tremendously moving climax.

Should rank amongst Cushing's greatest performances (& that's saying a lot)
