Movie Info

Rock 'n' Roll legend Carl Perkins pulls out all the stops in this once in a lifetime performance of his best songs. Along with some of the rock era's most respected artists and musicians, "Mr. Blue Suede Shoes" brings out his best. Among the long list of superstars joining Perkins are: Eric Clapton, Dave Edmunds, Rosanne Cash, Slim Jim Phantom, and a reunion of Beatles greats George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Audience Reviews for Carl Perkins and Friends

Live 1985 televion "concert" at London's Limehouse Studios. Up close television show that aired on British TV on New Years Eve. Perkins hosts this little gathering throughout the show. Does duets with several guests, including George Harrison. Appearances from Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis are not live but are interesting to see. This is a really relaxed and casual show, with the celebrities such as Clapton, Starr, and oddly Rosanne Cash amoung others sitting on chairs with their instruments. Not your traditional concert performance but more of an intimate chat session between Perkins and guests. This is Carl Perkins and friends singing his songs and other classic country hits of his generation. It took 18 months to bring all these musicians together for this television special. A bit awkward at times, the likes of Harrison, Starr and Clapton apparently had to ad lib conversation with Perkins and the whole show has an unscripted look to it. The most memorable scene is when Perkins introduces George Harrison to the stage. Out pops George casually as if coming to a dinner party. Basically a tribute show in honor of Perkins with Perkins hosting the event. The song list is fifties tunes such as Blue Suede Shoes, Honey Don't (with Ringo), Matchbox (Starr), Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, plus some then new songs like What Kind of Girl (Rossane Cash's big hit). Dave Edmonds played, produced and directed this gathering of Perkin friends. 18 songs. DVD, Running time 60 minutes, 2.0 stereo, Dolby Surround 5.1, color. Not my favorite music, but the appearances by Ringo, George and Clapton make worth watching at least once.
