Movie Info

Mainstream Italian filmmaker Alessandro D'Alatri directs the light romantic comedy Casomai (If By Chance). Thirtysomething ad executive Tommaso (Italian TV star Fabio Volo) gets married to upscale makeup artist Stefania (Stefania Rocca). In a rural church outside of Milan, the priest (Gennaro Nunziante) questions the couple and the congregation about the lasting power of relationships. Told in a series of flashbacks and future sequences, the upper-class couple struggles with the social pressure of friends, career, and family members. Their love is further tested with parenthood, infidelity, and separation. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

  • Tommaso and Stefania's relationship turns out to be a tender and wise reminder of what we all already know about love: It's beautiful. And it's damned. But we must do it anyway.

  • A one-trick pony you could call the Italian Four Weddings and a Funeral.

  • The tone is either too whimsical or too leaden and the director rarely fulfills the promise of his ideas.

  • Art holds a mirror up to nature, but it's a rare film that lets us see ourselves so clearly in that mirror, flaws and all.

  • Not enough of anything to register strongly.
