The Earl of Locharne (David Tomlinson) owns a haunted Scottish castle that he has transformed into a bed-and-breakfast, using its resident ghost to draw in tourists. But Locharne must rebuff the demands of a government official who wants to use the castle as a home for miners and the advances of Mrs. Clodfelter Dunne (Barbara Kelly), who wants to buy the castle. Meanwhile, a historian (Margaret Rutherford) staying at the bed-and-breakfast is convinced Locharne has a right to the throne.
