Critic Reviews for Chakde! India
India is definitely Bollywood, ashamed of neither sentimentality nor predictability. Yet its sharp-eyed view of Indian society makes for a world of difference from old-style, sugar-coated Bollywood films.
The film's greatest merit is its commentary on sexism in India. As it should, Chak De! India gives the women, in the closing credits, the last word.
Weaves its familiar story with some fresh textures and even manages to invest the conflict on the field with a resonance that transcends the tick-tock turnover of the numerals on the scoreboard.
A patriotic heartwarmer that scores some old-fashioned entertainment goals despite its flaws.
Shah Rukh Khan is outstanding -- it's a performance that is comparable and at points even more internalised than the one in Swades.
Audience Reviews for Chakde! India
Sports film (translation - Go For It, India!) with a difference as disgraced ex-hockey player Shahrukh Khan volunteers to coach the scornfully regarded India womens team for the World Cup. Like BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, only with sticks, and good Sunday afternoon watching entertainment.
Heartwarming, but more like Boring.
This is surely one of the best movies from shahrukh khan. A very strong story and it hits all the right chords. Everything worked for this movie actors, songs, story everything. It increases the thirst of every hungry underdog for success, to prove himself or herself. It gives so many right messages at right time and to right people or I should say people who really need to get those messages. The match between girl and boys addresses girls hunger to prove they are not less than men. Winning at international level defeating well equipped, well trained team addresses wishes and desires of every success starving little guy. Absolutely brilliant concept executed to perfection.
