These gamers are nuts. It really is crazy how huge these people got in such a small pond. The rise and fall of the arcade was roughly a three year period back in the 80s and these guys still live in that world with their achievements. Its just crazy. Film really shows you this little world.

Endearing and depressing.

Fantastic documentary and perhaps the best glimpse one can get of the retro video game world of the 1980's.

An interesting documentary. You don't invest in the characters as much as "King of Kong" but still worth a viewing.

An interesting film, about those who were at one time, and probably still are the best at playing video games. This film is not as good as "The King of Kong", however they both came out the same year, so that is a neat fact. However, "King of Kong" kind of gives the viewer a good vs. evil, and a hero to cheer for. This film just tells the story of these people were once featured in Life magazine for being the best video game players, and were they are now in life, and what it was like. How the industry has changed, so it is a different film. If you like "King of Kong", and what some more knowledge or see other people in the industry. Then I highly recommend this film, otherwise don't bother, and see "King of Kong" first.

This movie will provoke inevitable comparisons to The King of Kong, since they both involve many of the same classic video game enthusiasts. Whereas King of Kong presents itself as a character-driven sports movie, complete with hero and one of the biggest villains in documentary film history (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration). Chasing Ghosts definitely presents its characters in a more honest light, allowing them to portray themselves however they wish. The picture presented may be more honest, but is in no way more optimistic. It is surprising how negatively some of the individuals portray themselves, and how sad some of their stories are.

can't help but compare this to The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, which came out the same year. good, but not quite as good.

An interesting look at the age of arcades and the video game champions that resided therein. And yet, there's really not much of a happy ending, despite a few of these champions finding life after video games.

Interesting look at the history of video games and a bunch of pathetically lovable losers.

Pretty boring compared to the King of Kong.

Great doc about the original and proper hardcore gamers of the world that stood in arcades playing games for 24+ hrs. Good, but not as entertaining as A Fistful of Quarters

A decent documentry over the arcade game craze of 80's. The movie is more about the young players that made names for themselves playing arcade games and where they are now. Some bits are pretty funny over champs getting there high scores debunked by other players. The documentry feels like it runs long with nonsense fillers when it could have added advertisements from the era instead. The people interviewed are quite the characters.

This movie is better than King of Kong. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Feels a little incomplete but has some great perspective on the history of arcades.

A pretty good documentary about the best players during the golden age of the arcade.

Pretty fun doc about some of the people in a way more fun doc, The King Of Kong, and their 80s cohorts. Worth watching if you play video games.

Billy Mitchell is god

If you were a gamer in the heyday of the arcades (the early 80s), this movie will make you feel nostalgic. If not, I don't know that you'll really get a sense of what that era was like. Seek out The King of Kong for a better story.

"The King of Kong: A fistful of Quarters" set the bar unattainably high in the genre of classic arcade game competition documentaries, but this one is still really good. Watch it if you remember the golden age of the video arcade.

I saw "King of Kong" first (which strangely was released the same year, and is an extremely similar movie), so I had already been exposed to this strange world of video game masters. It doesn't make it any less entertaining, but a lot of the stuff that made 'Kong' so fascinating was already old news to me (like how much of a d-bag Billy Mitchell is), but I think that 'Kong' has the edge for me because while this movie kind of captures the entire early/mid-80s arcade scene as a whole (through the eyes of these guys), 'Kong' focused on one particular controversy which made it a little more interesting. Either way, it's a must-see for anyone interested in video games ... or even if you're not.
