What a lovely surprise: beyond the gloss of this formulaic Hollywood comedy about the importance of family, lies a heart-felt and hilarious treasure chest filled with home truths.

The children (including creepy Hilary Duff) are 12 shades of dreadful.

Levy directs what amounts to an almost plotless - and entirely pointless - slice of controlled chaos as if it were an expensive pilot for a TV sitcom.

Good comedy is derived from the characters, but this film doesn't establish its characters well enough to be effective on that level.

It's not that Cheaper by the Dozen is awful. Worse than that, it's just plain dull.

Life in the Baker house is as chaotic as life in the original 1950 Cheaper Gilbreth house was well-ordered and organized. I think I like the in-name-only remake better.

Good-natured and nicely suited for family viewing, but too many of the gags and plot points are old and unfunny.

This film could be shown at a fundraiser for the Marie Stopes Institute with a vasectomy team waiting in the foyer.

Sweet, syrupy and corny. But it made us laugh. DVD disc doesn't add much to what's on-screen.

...the film is about children who are so selfish they ensure their parents are as unhappy as the audience.

Hunt's shunted aside in favor of the camera-hogging Martin, who grandfathers in his exasperated Parenthood act.

Who should see this movie? Anyone that is looking for a safe family movie to take the kids to.

A rarely funny comedy that's unlikely to keep even the most undemanding ankle biters amused.

A combination of clever writing, top-notch comedic leads, winning performances from the youngest Bakers, and a genuine affection for old-fashioned (read: big and loud) families elevates Cheaper above the dreaded kid-movie dreck.

OK, so I haven't read the original book or seen the previous movie. But I'd bet the family dog never rooted its snout furiously in a kid-hating boyfriend's crotch.

This isn't a film made for reviewers, it's made for kids, and for them it's mildly successful.

it's a good movie if you're kid thinks he's a bit of a misfit - or if there's any discussion about adding another mouth to feed.
