Movie Info

First coming to the attention of the American masses as a mid-1990s "Saturday Night Live" regular, Chris Rock later skyrocketed to the status of Class A, million-dollar-salary celebrity with high-profile movie roles and a regular show on HBO. This video, taped for a 1996 HBO special, features Rock in between mainstream success and international fame -- and he's at his irreverent, controversial, political and, best of all, &NFi;uncensored&NFi_; best!

Audience Reviews for Chris Rock: Bring the Pain

You're not officially educated in stand-up comedy until you've seen this film. There's a reason it has such a great reputation. Every joke works, and they all say some interesting, insightful things about mid-90s America. Whole essays worth of the ills of U.S. culture are streamlined into Chris Rock's economically delivered punchlines.

his breakthrough hour, and at the time the most groundbreaking thing in stand up comedy. classic bits aplenty, but as time went on i think he got more comfortable and more conscious, not necessarily funnier.

SYNOPSIS: Chris Rock's debut stand up special for HBO. RATING: NR, but this is HBO sooooo, R for language RUN TIME: 1 hour, 17 minutes REVIEW: I reviewed this movie a couple days ago cuz I hadn't seen it in so long and I gotta tell you, the jokes for the most part stand the test of time. Granted it's been about 10 years since this special aired on HBO, but the jokes still work. The Black People vs. Niggas skit is still classic. The DVD also features two music videos that I could not stop playing - No Sex and Champagne. Highly recommended!
