Very early Columbo written by Steven Bochco and directed by Steven Spielberg, but not one of the best story-wise. Spielberg does acceptably well and his style is apparent with his characterizations, but the story certainly lacks sparkle. Of the early ones, it is not bad, but it is not as tight as it could be. Falk establishes the Columbo trade marks here more so than in Prescription: Murder, his first outing. Jack Cassidy gives an excellent performance as the killer. Nice location filming: southern California sure has changed.
