Audience Reviews for Combat America: Air Battles Of WWII

Produced and narrated by actor Clark Gable himself, the film is admittedly a US war propoganda tool. It was made by the War Department. But it's still worthy of watching just to see the real, not Hollywood set aircraft and life of the times. The vintage film is not sharp images as one would think given the professional crew sent with Gable on this flag waiver. [img][/img] "Combat America is a 1943 Allied propaganda film of World War II: "1st Lieutenant Clark Gable is hereby directed to proceed to England ... for making a combat film dealing particularly with the combat phases of aerial gunnery ... ".--wikipedia While John Wayne was our actor in WWII, Clark Gable was actually doing what he spoke of. He flew 5 missions. Wayne never fought. [img][/img] SEE Combat America here: Sure its flag waving stuff, but more than that its a historical document with real film of real airplanes, real airmen, real fighting in the last third of the film. NOTES: 1 Gable flew five World War II combat missions from May 4-September 23, and during one of them, his shoe was struck by an anti-aircraft shell. 2 The Germans should have realized the wealth of the U.S. when they could fly Hollywood legends complete with camera crews in an aircraft in combat, no less. How sweet it must have been: "Gable's film crew included MGM cameraman Andrew J McIntyre; "1st Lt. Howard Voss, a sound engineer; Master Sgt. Robert Boles, a cameraman; Master Sgt. Merlin Toti, an other cameraman; and 1st Lt. John Mahlin, a scriptwriter."
