Sitting through this movie is like watching a dog running in circles chasing its tail -- the amusement factor dies quickly as the situation become repetitive.

It's slapped together childishly and has no real foundation to render it even vaguely capable of withstanding a lapping wave of intellect or logic.

A schmaltzy action-adventure at 8,000 feet.

You have to wonder where we stand as a society when something like "Con Air" passes for entertainment.

It's only all these A-list and almost-A-list actors that makes this anything other than a made-for-USA Networks movie.

There are some decent actors in this movie, and they have sold their souls to the devil.

Passably entertaining for the first 90 minutes, but...the movie becomes, in quick succession, silly then generic.

After about two hours, the explosions, shootings, explosions, wisecracks, explosions, and intrusive sentimental interludes get very boring.

I kept thinking that if their budget were cut in half, they would have made a better picture. If the special effects department were put on a much stricter budget, the show might have had to develop the characters beyond caricature.

Jerry Bruckheimer should be thankful for the modern audience's short attention span.

Instead of films that wrestle with issues of love and faith, we get a spirituality as hollow and plastic as the Barbie doll in Greene's hands.

I don't know how it happened, or what Simon West was thinking, but the first half of Con Air is brilliant and the second half is a non-stop climax, and a dimwitted one at that.

Jerry Bruckheimer hands Simon West the reins and West drives this carriage, which is chock full of great actors, straight over the cliff.

The worst part of the conclusion is that when you breathe a slight of relief that this repetitive and overly long film is finally over, it isn't.

The movie sends two mean-spirited messages. One is that bad criminals are no better than animals and should be treated accordingly. The other is that hatred, mayhem, and destruction are rip-roaring ingredients for summer entertainment.

How's the movie? Big, loud, brutal and stupid, that's how it is.

Despite the glut of strong performers, the thing never gets past its cumbersome, detonate-everything high concept.
