Movie Info

"The Confetti Brothers" tells the "true" story of Michael and Patrick O'Brien, the current owners and operators of their family's 75-year-old confetti business. Started in 1924 by their great-grandfather Callahan O'Brien, the Confetti Brothers are still dedicated to making their confetti the old fashioned way, by hand. Each piece of confetti is strenuously tested for watermarks, bad dyes, abnormalities and other imperfections that Callahan would have never tolerated. "The world may not be perfect," Callahan would say, "but there's no reason why our confetti can't be." The film chronicles the company's history and gives valuable insight to the men who run it today. Michael, the idea man, has developed what he thinks will be the product that creates a "revolution" in confetti technology. "Confetti '95 is the first fully interactive confetti on the market. It's biodegradable and upgradeable. We think that this will make us more appealing to the technologically aware, the cyber people, the children." Patrick, the historian, works hard to keep the company in focus, making sure that what worked 70 years ago, still works today. "You've got to love this business to be in it. If you're just doing it for prestige or dignity, then you've got to get out while you can. It's a lot like modeling in that respect." After a World War II marketing fiasco that nearly bankrupted the company, financial salvation came in the form of legendary comedian and King of Confetti, Rip Taylor who appears in the film as himself. As Patrick says, "when God closes a window, he opens a door." "The Confetti Brothers" is a loving and often hilarious look at two men who keep their American dream alive and well. From their daily rituals to the tragic world premiere of their Confetti '95 at the annual Clown Expo in Louisville, Kentucky, "The Confetti Brothers" proves that they have indeed been "making confetti funner since 1924." -- © 2001 Sorehead Entertainment

When I saw that this was going to be a phony documentary about two brothers who are confetti manufacturers, I thought - oh cool, I get to make Rip Taylor jokes in my review.
