the critics are stupid for rating this poorly. this is a most hilarious buddy cop style movie with an all star cast. good from start to finish. if you haven't seen it then it's time to do so.

As I like to say, it was an "eh" movie. A criminal named Osborn is being staked out by the cops, so they suspect that he lives next door to the Robberson family. The cops ask if they could stay at the family's home for a bit- but this is Norman Robberson (Chevy Chase)'s dream. Norman loves cop shows and movies, so now it's finally his chance to see the life of a cop. However, head cop Jake Stone has a heart of wood and the Robbersons suffer with him around.
You have your good and bad parts- an okay movie. I don't know whether to suggest it or not. Try it, sure.

don't ever throw a cat on me again.

chevy chase and jack palance of their best performance and the most funniest and hilarious moment rest of the movie. awesome jack palance the very tough cop named aka. uncle jake and chevy chase is the hilarious one starring actor as robbersons of family man. another funniest actor robert davi (but he also good role villian-comedy in "the goonies") an villian-comedy movie who in next door next to robbersons. both chevy chase and jack palance are my favorite actors ever in cop and the comedy movie and glad with chase and palance in work together.

I rented this purely because Chevy Chase is in it. There is very little story here, and for a Chase movie, very few genuine laughs. Jack Palance has the range of a piece of driftwood in this movie. You'd do well to skip this one.

Chevy Chase plays Norman Robberson, a mild mannered, clumsy father of three living in a suburban neighborhood. Norman brings home a veteran cop, Jake Stone (Jack Palance), and his young assistant, Tony, they want to use the Robbersons home as a stakeout to spy on a mobster hiding out next door. Norman's wife Helen (Dianne Wiest) reluctantly agrees to go along, and the kids see it as a grand adventure~!!!

"Do you know who's living next door?" Chevy Chase, love him or hate him, has a goofy, zany nature about him, you just can't ignore. Though, this film will not have you laughting hysterically, it will entertain.

Chase and Palance! What a double act! Pity this isn't available on DVD anymore.

Some slightly funny Chevy Chase scenes, but not nearly enough to make this movie worth watching.

It's really sad that this is such a bad movie. The cast is awesome, and it's directed by one of my favorites of all time, Michael Richie. But nothing works. Chevy is at his worst, and Jack Palance just sort of wobbles around on old knees. There is not a single laugh in the whole movie.

En hemmelig perle. Tilsynelatende B film, viser seg å være en forkledd A film! Chevy i toppform, knusende moro..

Great 90's family comedy only the 90's could pull off. For older families by the way. Little language and scenes parents might want to watch for...anyway otherwise it's pretty funny and a great little film.

good comedy, Chevy and Jack work well together.

Bad for Chevy and Palance. The poster is funnier than any frame in this movie

A great idea that should have worked a lot better than it did. There are so many missed opportunities here it gets painful after awhile. There are some very funny sequences, not enough though. It was entertaining but it was equally forgettable. The was an episode on the Dick Van Dyke show that dealt with a similar situation that was so much better.

Good movie; acceptable premise. Might've been a touch better
