Critic Reviews for Crowhurst
Simon Rumley has always been an inventive film-maker, and he creates memorable visions to convey Crowhurst's mental breakdown. Ultimately, however, the film's cost-cutting focus on a man alone grows a bit too monotonous.
A little bit psychedelic, a little bit queasy, a little bit experimental, a lot existential, this is a jarring, visceral portrait of the around-the-world sailor in over his head.
It's a somewhat heavy-handed depiction of Crowhurst's mental devolution, and the lo-fi nature of the film means it feels like a strange cross between an experimental movie and a BBC primetime drama.
