Very interesting story, and not too bad of a script. The scenes were unique, if nothing else. The character got a little grating, but the main character of the contest winner was believable and lovable. Fair to good graphics for the occasional bloody wounds, but silly chase scenes that fail to build suspense over the slight chuckles.

Surprisingly high quality for a low budget movie. The acting was good all around and the special effects were mostly very well done. Although the story was a little weak and didn't quite come together at the end, unique and well-developed characters truly made this film a step above many of its genre.

A few cliche characters make the movie funny, like Rhett, the onion chef, and the sound guy. The black and white beginning is probably the best part of the movie though.

Low budget b movie horror. With lance and tony todd in this i knew what to expect but the acting was terrible. only gave it 3 star cause of the gore and thought the acting was laughable.

Dark Reel follows the story of a crew trying to shoot a low budget movie during filming one of the cast is killed and everyone could be a suspect includeing a fan that won a contest to have a small part in the movie as everyone is trying to figure out who the killer might be more of the cast start dropping like flies untill someone figures out that these killings lead back to a unsolved murder in the 40's of a little known hollywood actress. This movie was pretty bad from the start and kinda got worse from there the story could have been good maybe given a better cast and more budget but it looks like this was shot for nothing and to top it off you get to see a badly aged very bloated Edward Furlong as one of the leads two stars for very few of the scenes but overall it might be a waste to alot of peoples time.

Very decent effort.
I truly like the film, and since im a big fan of Lance Henriksen, i wa happy to see he got a interesting part.
ALso to mention is Edward Furlong, and Tiffany Shepis, which is the first time i've seen her in a film.
And Tony Todd as a cop.

Good horror film, made very well with a low budget.

the worst movie i have ever sat through... the acting and script were horrible, i've seen porn stars act with more talent. my rating for this dribble is absolutely rotten. consider yourself warned.

What a fantastic film, with a great ensemble cast. Henriksen, Todd, Riffel, Furlong, Walter and my personal favourite (and the reason I watched the film) Tiffany Shepis. This film starts off in the 1950s, where struggling actress Scarlet May being dismembered before the cameras. Fast forward to present day and we see the inner workings of a low budget film studio churning out such classics as Gnome Killer and Snakes on a Crane. But when fan boy Adam Waltz (Furlong) wins a walk on part in the film Pirate Wench. Strange things begin to happen and a masked psycho starts bumping cast members off. What follows is a gore and giggle fest. Red herrings galore keep whose the killer ticking until the end. Jake Grace and Henriksen have the best roles, clearly played for laughs. Shepis even manages to portray some romantic connectivity with Furlong. All in all a solid horror story with plenty of comic moments. Brilliant.

Dark Reel starts off promising with a beginning story of a 1950's actress being brutally murdered by someone. Now come to present day where a hot shot film executive (Lance Henriksen) makes several low budget horror films usually a wide array of scream queens, including his biggest star Cassie Blue (played by the sexy Tiffany Shepis). A special contest allows lead (but billed last oddly enough) Edward Furlong to have a walk on role in the latest movie being filmed. As luck would have it though, the female talent starts getting brutally slayed in some gory and somewhat amusing deaths. First of all, this movie is terrible. The editing is extremely sloppy as is the acting, which is just awful. Tiffany Shepis' multiple titty shots could not save this film, though they did earn it a full star! Half a star goes to the two hilarious performances by the "sound guy" as well as the "onion chef" (you'll know when you see them) and the other half of the star goes to whomever managed to get a wide range of talent (aside from the already named, Tony Todd, Rick Baker, Alexandra Holden and Tracey Walter also appear in the film to read their terribly written lines). I will say Shepis put in a convincing performance as a person who was actually sexually attracted to the goofy looking Edward Furlong. Also, this film did NOT need to be nearly 2 hours long. Showed a lot of promise but wound up being a real stinker.

Fun cast can't save a poorly scripted mess with lackluster direction.

Acting and screenplay was pants... The whole movie was just a waste of time...

Interesting concept, poorly done.
B-Movie, but still fun to watch.

A b-movie about making a c-movie. With ghosts. That's worse than Scream 3. Terrible.

Amusing, if overlong, horror movie that has nicely pitched performances and enough recognisable faces to lift this above the standard. The director has done well with a less than Hollywood-sized budget.

The opening scene gave what looked like a promising horror movie hence half of a star. The rest is so bad couldn't even watch it.
