Solid little wester about Glenn Ford rescuing his captured wife and daughter. What made this film a bit more interesting than most is that Ford enlists the help of a neighbor to help him rescue his family and doesn't realize his neighbor has ulterior motives for helping Ford. Beside Ford, the strong cast includes Arthur Kennedy, Dean Jagger, Paul Fix, Royal Dano, Barbara Babcock, and the always great Harry Dean Stanton.

This has some interesting, clever set-pieces and unexpected twists that draw you in. It's shot almost like an art-house movie at times and has a slightly dark feel. I would have scored it higher if not for the sucky ending. Bit of a depressing anticlimax.

reminded me of the superior 'the searchers'

interesting dark western with a good tone and sense of foreboding but rescue scene at the end feels far fetched.

Same beginning plot as the Searchers, but the comparison stops here. Good acting, as usual, by G.Ford.
Let's say that the ending is a bit rushed, but otherwise it's a good movie.

This one unfairly suffers from comparisons with 'The Searchers', and it has a similar storyline, however it does have its own grittiness about it, in both story and characters with a good pace throughout.

Good movie, stays interesting throughout, and has a bit of a surprise ending. Glenn Ford is an excellent, underrated actor, and he delivers in this one!

This movie is guaranteed to be horrible so here is some Billy Squire for your amusement:

"Now everybody, have you heard
If you're in the game, then the stroke's the word
Don't take no rhythm, don't take no style
Got a thirst for killin' - grab your vial... "

First person to name that song will get an invisible bowl of rice. Nothing will stifle hunger like Uncle Ben's invisible rice, homestyle.

Doesn't get much love cause it comes at an awkward time for American Westerns, but it's definitely a winner.
