In its youthful nihilism, the video has an obvious kinship with Larry Clark's Kids, but it's too hit-and-miss to stand up as a dramatic feature.
It puts the viewer inside the world of three children who are banal for a compelling reason: They have never learned, or been taught, how to create meaning in their lives.
Sex, drugs, violence, rock and roll -- it's all here, but the eerily natural performance and frankly explicit situations help deadend.com skirt cliché and stand as one of the year's most provocative Canadian features.
