A weapons dealer pimps out his girlfriend to a dictator in this unfunny farce.

A Chevy Chase bomb should not be ridiculed it should be expected.

The idea of William Friedkin directing a Chevy Chase comedy is pretty awkward, and the result certainly is. The plot and characters are incredibly underworked, but it does manage a handful of amusing, clever moments - based in large part to the charisma of the cast - so it's not quite as bad as its reputation. Still, forgettable and not really worth watching.

Here's relic not worth revisiting. Strange film in the respect that it doesn't quite want to be a drama, and hasn't the laughs to be a full fledged comedy. Did Chevy even read the script before signing on to do this one? He did some bad films after leaving Saturday Night Live, and this one tops the crap-heap. Even Sigourney Weaver's appearance can't help this lame turkey. Skip it.

Disappointing misfire, too bad, it has a terrific cast. Sigourney Weaver is the only bright spot in this movie however. It?s just not that funny, it?s pacing is very uneven, as are the laughs. It?s not without a few good scenes, but as a whole it just doesn?t work. It could have been a funny and biting satire, but is instead an oafish slapstick comedy with extreme characters and situations.

Funny movie with a great idea in the height of the arms dealings in real life that would follow in about 3 years.

(** 1/2): Thumbs Down

This movie almost works but it is just too silly at times. A near-miss.

A very hit and miss dark comedy that is not very well put together at the end. Also, what is with Alvin and the Chipmunks singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town over the end credits? That's a complete non-sequitor.

Chevy Chase films are usually hit or miss. This film was a miss; big time. The plot was just plain stupid and made no sense. There were so many holes in the story. Chevy Chase was just not that funny at all and just plain boring at parts. There were a few scenes that were typical Chase, but in the end, just not that good. This goes on that list of typical bad 80s films.

A war satire that Chase and Weaver can't save from failing.

I hadn't ever heard of this movie until a friend recommended it this weekend. It's a dark comedy that's frighteningly relevant.

Great idea; so-so execution. Needed a script polish, better production and someone to replace Chase. An actor with comic sensibilities instead of a comic that thinks he can act.

See a pissed off Hines take a flamethrower to a low rider: "Let me give ya'll a little touch up"
