I am a big fan of Death Note and try to collect all the DVD's, so this got me really excited. I thought it would be somewhat of an alternative ending (which it was not, but oh well) or have a bunch of deleted scenes in it, but I was quite disappointed by what I found. It's mostly just a shortened version of the series with a few deleted scenes. The beginning starts out with L introducing all the characters, which I thought was boring (I know all the characters well so I felt like it was just repeating what I already knew, but people who have never heard of Death Note [which is who the introduction is designed for] might find it interesting.). There weren't too many new scenes, but one I found worth watching was a flashback with L tutoring at Wammy's House. Also the brand new assault on the SPK was interesting. I was disappointed that they removed the whole Mello mafia arc though, which is what I was watching for. If Near is your favorite character then you should enjoy the new scenes though. For those new to Death Note, I'd recommend just watching the original series (Unless you don't want to waste an all-nighter or one week of continous watching and would rather it be shortened down to two hours.). For those that are big fans of Death Note, although there isn't many changes in it, I would still recommend it since the few changes that are in there are pretty awesome.
