Movie Info

Silent western star Tom Mix traded in six-gun and stetson for sword and powdered wig in 1925's Dick Turpin. The film goes the usual whitewash route by depicting the notorious British highwayman as an 18th- century Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. The scripters also toss in a bit of Lochinvar by having Turpin rescue a wealthy young woman (Kathleen Myers) from an arranged marriage. Though Dick Turpin made money, it didn't do half as well as Tom Mix's standard western opuses, perhaps indicating that the only Turpin in whom audiences of 1925 were interested was Ben Turpin.
