The Disappearance of Alice Creed Reviews

October 25, 2019
After meticulously rigging a combination of claustrophobic suspense drama and icy procedural, director J Blakeson allows his movie to fall apart.
September 9, 2010
The neatness of the movie, however, hems it in. It is plotted almost to a fault.
September 7, 2010
The mental games that the characters play are underdeveloped, and the look of the film isn't worth leaving home for.
September 5, 2010
If Blakeson wasn't so desperate to shock his audience, the suspense he establishes early on might not have been so quick to join Miss. Creed in disappearing.
August 13, 2010
It wants to be a movie about the intersection between criminality and the class system but, for that, it could have used a bit more class.
August 11, 2010
It gets caught up in its fevered passion to chart a different course and neglects the importance of making that journey worthwhile.
August 10, 2010
It's just a cheap thriller.
August 10, 2010
Worthless.
August 6, 2010
J Blakeson keeps the suspense level high for the first hour or so, but he then indulges in a few plot twists that strain credibility.
August 6, 2010
All the considerable effort that went into making this film cannot finally offset its aura of pointless morbidity.
August 4, 2010
It's like Deathtrap with two twists instead of 12.
August 1, 2010
Although it continually complicates its basic narrative setup, J Blakeson's film has enough of the crudely exploitative to make it feel like a decisively unwholesome entertainment.
July 6, 2010
The story has a few too many reversals for its own good, which leaves the characters seeming more like pawns of a clever screenwriter rather than unpleasant people in a desperate situation.
July 6, 2010
It's not the dialogue that ruins the movie; it's the forced twists thrown into the narrative that unearth more weaknesses than revelations.
April 30, 2010
Recalling one of those exploitation flicks so popular in 70s drive-ins, everyone involved deserves a pat on the back for producing such a fearless British movie. If only it was better.
April 30, 2010
After a confident build-up, the ending feels like an anti-climax.
April 29, 2010
Only the pedigree of Eddie Marsan suggests there might be more to this film than meets the eye. And that it might be clever enough to excuse the material.
April 29, 2010
This painfully low-budget effort is barely passable as a TV drama let alone a movie experience...
April 8, 2010
I expected the film to be cleverer, but in the end what you have is yet another film that focuses on a female victim who is stripped naked and humiliated, but is not smart enough to get herself out of the situation.
