The absence of a strong plot-related motivation for the movie has led to complete creative bankruptcy.

The sequel to Dr. Dolittle repeats the mistake of the first one.

It's been said that if a film uses a lot of narration, it's because its makers either don't know how to tell their story or have no story to tell. Well, this film has more narration ... than any movie in recent memory.

The clunky direction of Steve Carr (Next Friday) lurches from one scene to another with the grace of a pratfall and the script reads more like a skit comedy than a story.

Eddie Murphy delivers, as do the effects crew, but "Dr. Dolittle 2" is clearly for the kiddies.

Dr. Dolittle 2 is so full of comic excrement that you may find yourself looking down as you leave the theater.

If they cut all the stupid or incompetent bits out of it, it would be only opening credits and end titles, and even then there would have to be some trims.

A mildly amusing film that gets a B for effort and a C- for execution.

Dr. Dolittle 2's plot is wooden, its pacing leaden, and anyone over the age of 12 is bound to find themselves yawning soon after the opening credits.

Often tedious, occasionally cheap looking and always unimaginative, this should certainly put paid to any plans for a third installment. But, this being Hollywood, I wouldn't bank on it.
