Out of the 2009 8 Films to Die For Collection, this is a South Korean entry in to the horror field of movies. Its not bad, but the name Voices doesn?t do it justice, it is also called Someone behind You and Du saram-yida, I?m not sure about the Korean name but the Someone Behind you is more of a fitting title. We have a film where it seems everyone wants Jin-seo Yun, dead, and she is brutal attacked over and over by friends, and family, right till the end where her parents are killed and then there is a major twist, not a real horror film, more like a Hitchcock novel. Its worth the 8 Films to Die for Name, and its also worth 4 stars.
Yet another Asian 'curse' movie. This happens to be very interesting as the main idea really propels the story. What if your family tried to kill you? It makes for a creepy horror that soon loses it's way in a complex and increasingly dull mystery. Long pauses in the films narrative, taken up with long scenes of exposition, make this hard to get through at times.
This is a fairly average horror movie. The first half of the film was pretty decent, it wasn't great but I kept myself entertained so I thought that the first half of this film was fairly inoffensive. The last half of the film is where things get really fucked up. And not fucked up in the sense that there's a lot of violence/gore or suspense. I meant fucked up as it relates to the story. The story really starts to kick in in the second half of the film. And to say that the story is a confusing mess is an understatement. This movie literally makes no sense whatsoever and trust me and by the end of the movie I didn't really care what happened to the main characters. It reminds me of Eagle Eye, except in Eagle Eye's case the movie just turned into shit after the twist. This movie was never all that good so the "twist" (and the confusing story) never really hurt the movie all that much. Plus the movie just looked tame and there was a certain kind of gloss that, in my opinion at least, horror movies should not have. But that's just my opinion. Perhaps with a better and more coherent story this movie might have been solid but as it stands right now this movie is just average at best. It's not terrible but it's not good either so I can't really recommend it to anybody, not even hardcore fans of the genre.
