Vibrant and inspiring, this documentary captures not only the life and work of Charles and Ray Eames, but also the zeitgeist of USA design and to some extent, the society itself from post-World War II to 1980's.

Slow to develop and, though ultimately engrossing, never as revealing as you hope.

This is an inspiring well-made documentary about an influential pair of great designers. There are a number of accounts from employees, peers, clients and friends. These different perspectives build a wonderfully multi-dimensional picture of who the Charles and Ray Eames were and how they worked. The documentary excellently points out how Ray and Charles were more than just chair designers. They were pivotal figures in advancing the Modern movement, who challenged the norms to improve the way people experience their environment and interact with each other. It is very interesting to see how they worked together to design everything from products, furniture, buildings, graphics, film, museum exhibits, and more. Sadly, they were not perfect, and this movie points out how Charles took most of the credit for a whole team's worth of hard work, and how their personal married life was not ideal. Like any good documentary, it tells the complete story, the good and the bad. Ultimately, this film inspires people to have imagination see the world around them in a different way. It challenges all creative minds to look for new and better ways to doing things that look great, function at a high level and are accessible to the masses, or as the Eames would say, "The best for the most for the least."

Learned quite a bit about this interesting and famous husband and wife team. They were artists of a unique type, working very successfully in multiple mediums. Franco's narration feels a bit fake, but otherwise it's a solid doc.

Interesting, but eventually tries to grasp too much in too short a time frame.

Inspiring and thought-provoking, with plenty of contemporary 16mm footage of Charles and Ray.

Eames: The Architect and The Painter. (2011)

A story fascinating couple that gives great insight into the world of design the 60â(TM)s. Charles and Ray Eames (Husband and Wife design team) for changing the way the world looks at furniture and placed Herman Miller on the map. Beyond their work in furniture, their multimedia and film work pushes the boundaries of technology and leads the world to way web based information is presented (before the PC).

The story focuses on their professional work and cast a purposefully blind eye on their personal life. In the end, I had more questions than answers. The culture of the time cast Charles as the Leader of his studio and Ray as a supporting character (instead of equal characters).

The majority of the story is told by their designers many who went on to become important designers in their own right. However they focus only the work surroundings and some seem a little bitter. I would have like to hear more from their contemporaries friends and family.

This was an interesting and illuminating view of the seminal designers (and it totally made me miss my Eames dining chairs).

Fascinating documentary about the Eames Office, particularly Charles and Ray Eames, their integral part in the development of the US aesthetic between the '30s and '70s, and how their work continues to inform contemporary design

Such an interesting history of marriage of art and functionality that only fails by using such a bland narrator (sorry James Franco)
