Wyatt and Billy are more rigidly conformist, their life more narrowly obsessive than that of any broker's clerk on the nine to five.

Hopper, Fonda and their friends went out into America looking for a movie and found instead a small, pious statement (upper case) about our society (upper case), which is sick (upper case). It's pretty but lower case cinema.

The film may be a relic now, but it is a fascinating souvenir -- particularly in its narcissism and fatalism -- of how the hippie movement thought of itself.

[A] simplistic amalgam of travelogue and the zoom lens.

Easy Rider, is not only emblematic of independent American cinema, but, released in 1969, is the definitive statement on the death of the 60s.

"Easy Rider," even for those uninterested in the legacy of 1960s counterculture, punches the viewer in the gut with its hopelessness and emptiness.

It plays today more as a period piece than as living cinema, but it captures so surely the tone and look of that moment in time.

Despite it all, it's a valuable document of hepcat actors taking snapshots of America circa 1969

The film stands up as a profound period piece that continues to reverberate with the despondent hostilities of modern American existence.

The classic counterculture clash led by anti-heroes Fonda and Hopper...as riveting and rebellious as its subversive soundtrack

None of the forced violence, lawlessness, rapist, gratuitous speed aspects of the motorbike clan in this perceptive film.

On the outside this small film was an easy going tale of drug dealing motorhead joint-token fringe hippies rollin' down the highways...
