The humor of this rambling film runs dry to the point of unpalatable.
"The Tenth Man" is a low-key charmer, an unlooked-for combination of Jane Austen and Isaac Bashevis Singer. With a twist of Buenos Aires thrown into the mix.
"The Tenth Man" ... breathes considerable life into the rather trite scenario of a man discovering his religious roots, in part because it seems genuinely curious about the community in which it's set.
A small joy: a lighthearted, shaggy-yet-brief charmer with a pleasantly moralistic story that's like Sholem Aleichem by way of Seinfeld.
In his lovely new film, Argentine director Daniel Burman mixes reality with fiction in inventive ways.
A wryly amusing peek into Buenos Aires' bustling Jewish quarter.
Naturalistic and deadpan, Burman's comedy always takes a viewer by surprise. Cinematographer Daniel Ortega's camerawork wonderfully establishes place and a sense of the vitality of Argentine street life.
A quizzical marriage of growth and a retreading of familiar themes that never fully coalesce or reach their potential.
Burman [continues] warmly humanistic look at interplay of adult children and parents...Panoply of delightful characters, through dialogue & visuals...You'll leave with a smile.
Low-key in mood, Daniel Burman's film adeptly balances character-driven drama, picaresque street humour and quasi-documentary content.
As films about dopey dudes finding love go, Daniel Burman's The Tenth Man is too modest for its own good.
A decent enough story bogged down by an unappealing principal actor.
